Falling Off the Cliff After Diagnosis: How to Support Autistic and ADHD Women Better

I’ve lived it. Many of us have.

  • Being prescribed an ADHD medication dose that didn’t suit my AuDHD brain—leading to major health concerns.
  • Hitting rock bottom amidst unsupervised medication withdrawal.
  • Feeling deeply alone in the process, yet forced to become my own specialist—using my passion for neurodivergent women’s health science to find the real answers.

And I’m not alone.

Too many neurodivergent women are suffering because the system isn’t built for us.

We’re navigating:

⚠️ Stimulant doses that trigger a heightened stress response.

⚠️ Unpredictable and contradictory dopamine regulation.

⚠️ Hormonal fluctuations – especially in women over 35 (one of the biggest groups seeking late diagnosis).

⚠️ Severe burnout – yet still pushing through, being everything to everyone.

Just yesterday, at our AuDHD women’s event, I shared some data from our ongoing AuDHD women’s survey, bringing that together with science and lived experience anecdotes to create a fuller picture of how it connects.

I also referenced Mel Robbins’ interview with Dr. Sims, where she discovered – at 56 years old – that she had been following “bro science” her whole life. Even ice baths, hailed as a miracle for recovery, work differently for women than men.

This is not about dismissing male psychiatrists or experts. But we MUST question if the diagnostics and treatment strategies actually serve neurodivergent women.

💡 I challenge you to ask for the research behind the strategies being used to treat women with ADHD & autism. Because too often, it doesn’t exist.

That’s exactly why I created this training: Autism & ADHD in Women: A Scientific & Intersectional Lens

We dive deep into the true nature of AuDHD in women, equipping professionals and advocates with the knowledge needed to provide real support.
